Mice Proofing Fife

Are you looking for effective mice proofing in Fife?

An effective way to prevent mice includes proofing your home or business to keep these rodents out. Mice are very good climbers, able to scale rough, vertical surfaces and walk along thin cables or wires. You will need to identify any gaps located higher up the building, or on your rooftop, not just those near the ground and make sure these are properly protected to block entry to mice.

House Mice can be found in domestic buildings and rural buildings, they can be brown or grey in colour and their body length varies between 2.5 – 9 cm, however their tail can add another 9 cm to their length.

Droppings from mice are black and a rod shape and can be 3-6mm in length.
Mice live in nests which usually are found inside domestic dwellings, sheds and garages.

Mainly inside during the cold winter months, they like spaces under floorboards, cavity walls and attic voids.  Nests are more than likely very close to a good food source and are made from wool, paper and cloth.

Mice are also mainly active at night and they can fit through holes as small as 5mm: the width of a pen! Mice will also eat anything but their favourite food is cereal products and chocolate, they urinate in food as well as leaving mice droppings, they will gnaw their way through anything they can to get to a good food source.

How To Store Foods Correctly

Mice also carry diseases such as Meningitis, Jaundice, Typhus and Weil’s disease.

It is therefore extremely important to keep your cereals, biscuits and bread in containers to give you added protection in your kitchen and keep a source of food to a minimum.

Pet food including dry food for dogs and bird seed should also be kept in containers.

The practice of taking food to your bedroom is just asking for trouble if mice have managed to get into your home. (Teenagers take note)

Proofing (sealing with rodent-proof material) of holes under the sink area is vital as 75% of cases seem to come from this area.

Wire wool is a great deterrent but Mousestop Rodent Proofing Paste should be used where possible.

If you do have mice please remember that they do get everywhere, including your food prep areas,
Keep the work surfaces in your kitchen clean using antibacterial spray or wipes, don’t leave toasters full of crumbs on your worktop as they will climb inside to feed and urinate and leave droppings.
